Default Dead veccy c 2.0l DTi Y20DTH

Hi guys, can anyone offer an answer or at least give me a good idea of my problem. I have some garage/mechanical experience so I'm not a complete idiot, but this new electronic age annoys me immensely.

6 weeks ago on returning from work engine went into limp mode and exhaust gasses smelt awful. Suspected contaminated fuel, drained tank new filter and hey presto back to normal.

5 times since then after short run, 10-15 mins it goes into limp mode, turn ignition off then on and all ok again for up to 5 days.

4days ago, pulls off drive change into second, car dies as if ignition turned off. All attempts to restart fail including cracking injector nut,(fuel emitted during cranking) atomised fuel through inlet causes engine to try but not run.

Local garage puts it on Snap-On Modis reader and recorded, crankshaft sensor ( renewed) gearbox torque range can error and cruise control ( done).

Over to you guys......any ideas... Oh by the way it's a 53 plate

Thanks in anticipation

I would check,

EGR valve. A good enhanced scan tool should be able to report back the EGR position (or atleast what the ECU believes to be the position). Try removing and checking visually.

Injector duration/ pulse width / on time / flow - all different ways of saying the same thing - how much fuel is actually being injected.

Verify rail pressure, expect around 300Bar at cranking speeds, also check the pressure build time.

Also does the car have a particulate filter? could be seriously blocked

Happy hunting. You need a scan tool of your own really, take a look at the opcom tools on ebay. Money well spent.

Having said all of that, is the DTH a common rail engine? I've not had any direct experience with one.
