On my 03 vectra 2.0l tdi the symbol indicating egr valve has come up within 10 secs of starting the engine but then goes out after about another 15 secs. I have driven the car like this over 4 years and some 35k miles. Recently on a long trip the symbol came on when on the motor way with an immediate loss of power. I replaced the egr valve with one from a scrap yard that was worse so replaced with yet another. The symtoms are exactly the same as originaly experienced . On long trips the egr symbol is apt to come on often but not always with an immeddiate and significant loss of power but in general driving with or without ( uasually without ) the egr symbol up there is a general lack of power. Uless I have been unlucky it seems that it unlikely to be the egr valve but I am not sure. Is it possible to test an egr valve off the car? Any other suggestions would be welcome

Hi its probably a better idea to get the car on too a tech 2 computer to see if there are any stored error messages and start from there I know the vec C dervs suffer with egr probs but I thought that was only the 1.9 version

I'm a novice at this so bear with me but to the guy who asked what symbol - its the image of a car with a large spanner accross it that the hand book identifies as the EGR symbol

it sounds like you've got an underlying fault. Best advice is to get it to a good diagnostic workshop.
