Hi Hope this post gets on to the right place. I have a 2004 3.2 V6 and must say it has been great. It has developed a knocking which is coming from the heater (behind the glove box). This knocking stats when you unlock the car and or when you adjust the temp in the car. It doesn't seem to affect the performance and this is not a knocking from the engine. Can anyone help or advise???

does it change when you change the speed of the fans as it sounds like a lose motor/damaged one tbh its a difficult one could you upload a video of the vehicle making the noise to see if it helps some one to identify the noise hopefully as said its a strange one

Does the car have manual (dials) or electric climate control?

I would imagine its probably an adjustment motor that has either broken, or has become disconnected from its moving part and the knocking your hearing is the motor knocking on the broken part, or the broken part knocking on the matrix casing.

What causes it to make the noise? e.g. is it only making the noise when you try to change the temperature? Or does it do it when you change the fan speed, or select between windscreen, lower legs, upper fans etc...

Hi thanks for the reply. I'll try and describe the fault in more detail. When you unlock the car the knocking consistantly occurs and the fan is not in operation at this point nor is the engine. If you adjust the temp then the knocking occurs, but this is intermittent. The Vectra is the elite model and as far as I am aware should have air con. I'm unsure if this is the case though as it doesn't get very cold. Perhaps I'm answering my own question and maybe the air con has gone pants?? I'll try and upload a vid of this happening and it may help.

being a elite it will have climate control (aircon) and it sounds like the aircon has gone it may need a re-gas simple to get sorted by a qualified aircon guy/girl the knocking noise is odd though as you have said it occurs when you unlock the car so this is something diffrent too the fan side of the car it may be a faulty central locking motor but its a hard one to diagnose im afraid

The knocking is most likely one of the motors having failed. You'll have seperate motors that control the temp changes, also one for the distribution, and one for the fan speed.

The lack of cold air is most likely a re-gas issue.
