Default engine problems

Hi guys am getting a bit desperate now.

I have got a vectra c 2003 with the z22se engine,

so far been told my compression rings have gone

I bought the car on the understanding it ran a little bit up and down (though it was maf sensor no eml light is on)

got can home checked oil cream on the dipstick though crap. so did a compression results were;

Cylinder 1. 8 nd a half bar
Cylinder 2. 8 nd a half bar
Cylinder 3. 8 nd a half bar
Cylinder 4. 8 nd a half bar

so the car still ran lumpy start her up revs dropped below 500 nearly stalled then revs around 850. you pull off it has no umph on take of unless you rev the engine to 2000 rpm then you can fly off the mark. changing gear and the car judders and pops nd farts when ya revving off and has very very power when crusing it drives lovley when you slow down and drop to 3rd to turn the corner you put ya foot down and the revs dont even move stick at 1000 rpm foot to the floor you have to drop to 2nd to get the power back to drive. car had new spark plugs witch improved it a little bit got a little bit of power not loads but still same problem.

facts of car are. cone filter on the engine with orignal bottom of air box still in place.

think gunk around throttle body outside.
no oil in water

yesterday check oil level it was below min put 2 liters in now its over full how can this be? nd i mean past the plastic on the dipstick and up the wire of the dipstick,

thanks for everyone who will try and help

checked timing here is pic dunno what am looking for

I would advise you head onto z22se.co.uk and speak to the guys there, as they'll know this engine in great detail.

Personally I dont have massive experiences of these engines, but reading what you've said, I'm wondering if you have a blocked main or pre-cat. Are you finding its very sluggish and popping at low revs, regardless of gears, and then running better when the engine revs are higher?

I'd be focusing my attention on your downpipe if it was my car. You may well find the pre-cat or main cat are blocked.

It would be worth confirming if possible though.

To be honest I really dont know what compression is healthy for the z22se engine. The fact you have some mayo residue around the filler cap isnt too worrying on the 2.2 though - If it does lots of short journeys and doesnt get a good blast regularly they can do it. My first 2.2 did that, but ran fine and never missed a beat.

The results of the wet compression tests are in.

pleae note engine was run to temp then was cooled for 45 mins as i had to pic kids up ( i know i should not drive lol) ne way results are.

cylinder 1. no oil, pressure is 9.5bar adding some oil about 3 squirts 10bar
cylinder 2. no oil, pressure is 7.5bar adding some oil about 3 squirts 9 and 1 quarter bar
cylinder 3. no oil, pressure is 8.0bar adding some oil about 3 squirts 8 and a half bar
cylinder 4. no oil, pressure is 8 and 1 quater bar adding some oil about 3 squirts 8 and 3 quater bar.

compression had drop on sum chamber and raised in other from first reading.

According to Autodata, compression on the Z22SE should be 12-15 bar. Yours although differing don't see to be worryingly low across all 4 clylinders as far as I am concerned. Your lower readings could be pressure being lost through the rings, or through the valves not closing correctly due to debris on the valve heads. If an engine isnt running you dont get the oil spread on the liners that help to seal the piston rings and maintain pressure.

I'm not sure what else to really suggest as I really don't know enough about these engines to suggest anything more than perhaps checking your cats are not blocked.
