Question electric mirrors, Fog lights & Interior lights

Hi everyone, just a quick question - possibly posted in the wrong section sorry indavance.

vehicle type Vectra 1.8 LS
Engine type X18XE1
model year 2000
Right hand drive

Was looking at adding the following Electric heated mirrors, Front Fog lights and rear interior lights.
so my quick questions are

Electric/heated mirrors
have on drivers side a 6 pin socket with 5 pins connected followed by an eight pin socket - How easy is it to add heated mirrors?

Front Fog lights
Are they REALLY any use in the fog? Heard conflicting comments.

Interior Lights.
If i was to add interior lights in the rear for passengers what are the legal implications and if i tap into the door switch will this work?

Any comments are much appreciated. again sorry if it's posted in the wrong section.
BTW may add door lights & footwell lights at the same time but these would be quite simple.

Hello mate, nice to see you posting on the forum.

If the wiring is there, very easy, its just a few screws, remove the door handle trim surround, and plug them in on each side. Then obviously plug in the door mirror switch whilst the handle surround is off. One of the easiest mods on a car with the wiring in place.

I dunno about being much use in the fog, but they give a wider view of the road and I've always found them to come in handy in complete darkness.

I wouldn't add rear lights. They will reduce your overall visibility and will blind you when driving in the dark. It will also completely blank out your view from the rear window whilst driving.

I'm cool with it remaining in this forum, but if you want it can be moved to general car chat?

Thanks mate,

The thought never passed though my mind about view from the rear mirror.

For the mirrors I know i've got the wires behind the door card as had to lub up both front windows and replace that stupid felt runner! Tricky but easy.

Fogs i don't know however bumper will be off at the weekend so i'll have a better look. placing relay in front fogs makes a click but knowing vauxhall that doesn't mean jack.

Yes you can move to general car chat if you wish.

Thanks again for the input

front fogs are handy in fog, but then we hardly get loads of fog in the UK anyway.

When you say rear lights, do you mean the lights above the doors? They should be plug and play

Door lights, do you mean the lights on the door card bottom corner? Again plug and play

Lee's already covered the mirrors, the heaters only work when you've got the rear screen de-mist turned on.

Have you got the button for front fogs?
I would imagine they could be the hardest part of the job, as LS' I've seen don't have the wires for the lights themselves.

Rear lights were going to be courtesy lights mounted in the roof, bit like map lights you get on some other cars in the front. They'd have an integral switch that has off, door,on. Couldn't find wires for rear grab handles unless they have been truly hidden by vauxhall.

Front fogs i may leave as you say don't get that much fog in the uk.

Was thinking of putting door lights in bottom of door where door bin is - wires are there already. Also putting lights in footwell at rear that only work when the door closest is opened. Again that's an easy mod.

Mirrors hmm. Yes think you are right have two connector blocks on drivers side and one on passenger (that i can see, maybe behind plastic sheeting). Does this sound right? I know there are loads of switches out there but it's getting the right one.

Again thanks for the comments.

The right switch looks like this one:

Note that it is missing the light, and the button to turn on the heaters for the mirrors. As Andy stated, on the Vectra B the heated mirrors are activated along with the rear window demister.

thanks matt-m,

yeah i've seen two types but i'm adding mine to a LS that has the loom in place. I'm gonna strip the door down to see what connector i have before i buy one.

Not sure what the "added" feature of the light means though.

Can understand the blanking plate for where the switch goes on the pass side as this would be used on LHD vehicles. Cost less in tooling to make both LH & RH with switch hole. only one switch is fitted either for LH drive or RH drive.

I'll let you know what i find out, connector wise L8R

It could have been replaced at some point if the previous one was nonfunctional.

I've never seen a new Vectra B with one fitted though. Thats not to say it never happened though.
