Default airbag control squib help

Hi
I new to site and need advice on how to change the airbag control unit squib on a 1.8 vectra 2000 model. I have been quoted about £160 to get it done by vauxhall but i tight and think i could do it myself with your help.
Any advice welcome that points me in the right direction.
Thanks

its easy to do if you are handy with the spanners .

!. disconnect battery leave for 15-30 mins. to discharge airbag
2. remove airbag from steering wheel 2 torx screws at the back of the wheel undo remove the bag
3. big nut on steering wheel you have to knock the wings down gently around the side of the nut now undoing the nut you need to undo it in stages a few turns a time and pull the steering wheel gentle to break the grip of the steering shaft if it comes free happy days if not you need a puller to help move it .
4. when the whel is off just pull the squib off and replace with the new one ... make sure it clicks in place or the indicators wont self cancel .
Oh and make sure the wheel is straight before you remove it and dont reconnet the battery till the airbag is replaced as it will bring the airbag light on

And welcome too the site

HI Matt-m
Thanks for that, will give it a go tomorrow. One further question if i may?
When i reconnect the battery, should the ignition already be turned on or not?
Thanks again, Dave

as flatbeat said just take it as normal make sure everything is put back correctly reconnect battery one thing i would say is as you look at the engine bay there is a rubber switch as you look to the top right near the strut tape that down before you reconnect the battery or the alarm will go off lol keep us updated about how it goes

I'm going to say keep the ignition on - if your Vauxhall is fitted with a factory alarm, otherwise it goes crazy when you rec-connect the battery lead.

Its not essential though, the noise is more annoying than anything else. lol.

Obviously make sure the steering wheel is dead straight (and the front wheels are dead straight) before removing it. If the steering wheel fixing nut is hard to undo, remove the keys and lock the steering wheel, then crack it, before unlocking it and re-alligning the wheel.

Beware, it is entirely possible you will need a GM steering wheel hub puller to remove the steering wheel. Do not overly force it off as you will cause damage to the assembly if you do.
