Default OP-Com

Just picked up an op-com II unit and its certainly a good piece of kit.

Host of features and am curious about what additional things I can do with it, apart from reading / clearing fault codes.

Notice there's entries for the Multi Info Display etc.

Any suggestions?

most of the programming is locked out (certainly on vectra b's on all the software versions I've tried).

Beyond real world diagnostics its uses are limited to be honest.
You could view how many transponders are coded to your car under the IMMOB header of BODY, if for arguments sake 4 are coded in, but you only have two keys, you can delete all 4, and re program just the two you have.

!!!!YOU MUST HAVE THE SECURITY CODE FOR THIS,which you could try to recover from the INSTRUMENTS MENU, in BODY.!!!!

Likewise if 4 fobs are coded to the central locking, you can delete and re-code only those that you have. AGAIN CODE REQUIRED

There aren't many (if any) selectables on a vectra B, eg. on a VAG car of similar year, you can choose between auto locking on/off, flashing of indicators for alarm on/off, horn for alarm on/off etc.

MID is pretty thin on the ground, will only allow read/delete of fault codes.

You could also go into ENGINE, and while running (and at temperature) record a 30s live data sample. Import the resulting .csv file into excel, and make a graph of the lambda sensors, voltage against time, the resulting trace will give you an idea of lambda sensor health.

Had a good look this morning, being able to read and remove DTC's suits my needs, also takes away the worry of which sensor is at fault, reliance (being a pain) on others and the cost.

they use independant sensors, so not always going to be exact. Plus allow some gauge error and that's normal enough.

Just tried this over a 117.85 sec period and both O2 sensors are similar.

Engine temp is at normal running temp been driven for an hour or more - no error codes logged.

Sensor 1 peak is 702mv...low is 137mv
Sensor 2 peak is 722mv...low is 156mv

tickover is ok and no hesitation or misfire

Really need an expert eye to look the csv

A brief look at your opcom record files:

Intake air temperature extremely high at 66 centigrade. Could be normal as the engine has been running for some time (as indicated by 98 degree coolant temp). Repeat the test one day on a cold morning before startup.

Also TPS signal is showing 9% throttle, but the engine is at idle. I would expect to see more like 3 - 4%, again possibly a characteristic of the ECU/TPS, but could also point to a failing TPS or bad adjustment on the throttle body.

Also the graph here

Shows that bank 2 lambda is switching almost twice as quickly as bank 1, indicating that bank 1 sensor is less 'healthy', but even then, its still taking 3.5ish seconds to change state from lean to rich for bank 1. Try it again when actually driving the car to see whether response time is improved.

Andy

Cheers Andy, have noticed the throttle acting strange - clock showing one thing (7.5 - 8 rpm normal) but the engine sound indicating different. TPS is original and I could not shift the screws last time I cleaned the throttle body...so that can be replaced.
Air temp - I'm using a large US K&N filter not the 57i so the rise in temp is engine bay air being sucked in, probs with an induction kit.
O2 sensors - I've had the car since 2004 and have never changed them so they are quite old, something to look at when i have the exhaust changed - MOT emissions are ok though. Will try again when the TPS comes and on a run.

Thanks for taking the time out. Nick
