Default Oily question

I am planning to get my car ready for winter.. including an oil change of course...

Will this be any good?

Millers Oil Trident 5w30 5L | Millers Trident Engine Oils | Car Engine Oils | Autopoint - Autopoint

And, I've heard that there's 2 types of oil filter on the X25XE engine, as far as I can see it's a normal "metal" filter....

And another one.. is it easy to (partly) change the auto box fluid? I know not all can come out as there is about half of it staying in the torque converter, but still half of it, is better than nothing....

I am going to Holland in December.. driving to Hull, take the ferry there, but I want her to be fit for about 2000 miles in 7 days...

Any other ideas to do? just to keep her going, or get her even better?

you need the millers 10/40w semi synt oil bud the 5w is more for turbo engines and not suitable for a v6 .. i found it makes it tappy and you get more oil leaks .

auto box i would just check and top up the fluid tbh as changing to fresh fluid can cause problems as you mix old an new fluids togther ( i broke a 3.2 vec elite with autobox failure due to this) but if you want to drain there is a drain and top up plug on the front of the box think there is a specific way to remove and replace the fluid lee may know

are you staying in holland or driving northwards into northern europe?

While the vec's are best on 10w/40, if you're heading somewhere cold the reduced viscosity of the 5w/30 may be kinder on a cold engine.

sounds like a good road trip, I'd love to go over to denmark on the ferry from kings lynn, and drive up into northern norway as far as I could get, then try and work over into finland, and back down through latvia, eventually returning via the euro tunnel - but its one for the future and the fuel cost would be astronomic.

Sounds much like my aim to fly out to Toronto, buy a car, and drive it all the way down to San Francisco, stay with family and then sell it and fly back again.

The ferry has been booked now, we're sailing the 21st of December... hope the Vectra will like it as much as I do..
