Default Air flow sensors

The car is nowrunning as it should be ...tickover, pulling over etc....but am still not 100% happy, so am still under the bonnet.

On the V6 there are 2 sensors after the air filter the first MAF looks like it can be cleaned, the second near the throttle body is just a probe.

The MAF I imagine can be cleaned using carb-cleaner, but from what I have discovered the MAF can cause problems and doesnt throw up the EML.

If I had a MAF problem what would be the signs?

maf on the smaller engines is just an electrical unit working in conjunction with the IAT, not really cleanable.

I had a maf problem and it threw up the eml

Its a V6 so not really a small engine

The MAF apparently through up a eml when they are close to failing...but not always.
Think I had a loose connection as mine wasn't secure when engine was hot I found out tonight so I quickly bent one of the pins, drove again and I noticed the diff straightaway...so tomorrow I will do again.

I wouldn't clean the MAF at all personally, its fair too delicate for cleaning agents and will likely break - Others don't worry about that and do it, but I personally wouldn't. I've never cleaned on, and I've never had one fail. Dunno if thats just luck or not really.

The Inlet air temp probe could be cleaned if needs be though. I'd also clean the throttlebody and on, around the outside of the butterfly, and also where it sits at idle, as it tends to build up gunk in its idle position on the inner walls of the TB, and along the edges of the butterfly.

Usually if the MAF is playing up you use bucket loads of fuel and the car feels very flat thoroughout its power range. There could be more symtomes but those are the ones that spring to mind Nick.

EDIT: I've not really ever seen a duff MAF throw up an EML, its usually another fault code instead, but it could do it I guess. Sounds like it was just a poor connection from your post above though.
