Default Engine change

Hello All,

I have got a 1999 vectra 2.5 SRI Estate which has been damaged by a double decker bus! I have seen a 2002 2.6 SRI Estate that requires a new engine........ does anyone know if I can replace the engine in the 2002 car with the one out of mine?? Vauxall don't seem to know & a vauxhall breakers seem to think it will as long as the engine mounts are the same.

Can anyone tell me if this is possible as I need to get back on the road.

Thanks

Yes you can.

However, you will need to convert over to 2.6 electric, or to 2.5 electric. Im not too sure how a 2.5 would handle running the 2.6's sensors, so worst case scenario you'll need to swap the looms or modify the current one .

Both engines will fit with the same mountings, and all the ancillaries will transfer over. Externally the blocks are identical.

depending how dead the 2.6 engine is, it may be less work to get the 2.6 engine back into a running state, possibly using your 2.5 parts

I agree completely, but the majority of the X25XE are unsuitable on a Y26SE engine unfortunately.

If it was me, I'd have two options:

1. Rebuild the Y26SE, dependant on the damage
2. Replace with a 3.2 if its a total rebuild).

If you fitted a Z32SE (from a Vectra C GSI) besides replacing the engine physically, you really wouldnt have much more to do.

In my opinion, costs would be pretty much the same either way.
