Well, now I know for sure my car is female....and she had a bad attitude today!
This morning when I was at work to pick up Jocelijne I stopped and wanted to reverse into a parking bay.
I selected reverse, and nothing happened, I revved it a bit, and reverse engaged with a clunk, and could not drive in it.
I selected D and could drive, but when I took my foot of the throttle it felt like putting a manual in a too low gear at a too high speed ( enging braking )
I switched the car off, and after a minute started it again and reverse worked again, but first gear engaged with a cluck…
That was all, and after that it drove well again, running smooth through the gears, and reverse also working…
Checked the oil level of the box, and pink brownish, so that looks okay for as far as I know…
What on earth could that be?
I will paperclip it tonight, as the engine light came on, and I managed to keep it on longer than 30 secs (only after that it stores the fault)
It was on before that, but with a touch of the throttle it went off again….
Any ideas?
One not on that is that I drove through a puddle of standing water as there was no way around it...
Could this be an electrical issue? And if so, what should I check?
I am planning to prepare the car for winter... And one thing is to clean and lubricate/protect any electrical connection in the engine bay
Re: Cars are female, and mine is having a bad day!
I think it might be worth treating her to a fluid change mate.
It sounds more mechanical than electrical if I'm honest though.
I'm also pretty sure it takes less than 15sec to record a fault code. The way its recorded depends on whether its a intermittent fault, or a permanent fault.
Re: Cars are female, and mine is having a bad day!
Okay Lee, sounds fair enough.. Hope it is nothing major.. on my way home everything was fine, as nothing happened...checked the level at home, and looked pretty good.. haven't got around reading faultcodes.. will try that tomorrow...
Re: Cars are female, and mine is having a bad day!
Hmm I am trying to find how much goes in.. And I got a great handbook from Lee, that tells me I need Dexron II oil, well that's no problem, but how much? and is there a filter that needs to be changed/cleaned?
Re: Cars are female, and mine is having a bad day!
Aim to get 4ltrs, as having been drained it usually takes 3 to 3.5 ltrs to fill back up.
Its important to also remember the trans fluid level must be checked with the engine running, and the transmission in park. Start the car, give it 1-2 mins and with it in Park, then check the fluid level.
With the engine COLD it should be filled to the max level.
Once at operating temperature it will register a slight drop in level, but thats OK, do not overfill it thinking its too low.
Re: Cars are female, and mine is having a bad day!
Well, checked for codes this morning, and no code has been stored.. so I guess the light went on for no reason.. disconnected the battrey, and will leave it that way untill I go to work, see if it loses all current faults ( 0100 was stored, but I had a broken MAF, and that has been replaced )
