A little update.
I found the issue for almost 100%

Looks like there is a bit movement in the steeringrack.
It seems to move a bit from left to right when turning the wheel.

Now, it sits in rubbers, and I don't know if only the rubbers are replacable, and if, is it a hard job without a lift?

I can clearly see the one on the nearside, and looks easy enough to get that one out, but can't see the offside rubber from above...

I could only feel a bit of movement on the nearside as I could get my hand all the way down.
There is a pipe going to it, and when putting my finger between the pipe and the mounting the movement was very easy to feel...

That HAS to be the cause of the knocking...

The trackrod ends and the droplinks are fairly new, the droplinks are even shiny...

They're part of the rack mounting units, worth getting if your replacing it to be honest as they'll be new then.

When you say its moving, can you explain exactly where it is moving please?

Is it the entire rack assembly, or play in the TRE's, or play in the inner rams?

The entire rack is moving..
it not much, but enough to cause the knock...
If I look under the bonnet, I can see the rack on the right hand side ( standing in front of the car ) I can reach my hand down, and Jocelijne sat in the car moving the steering wheel.
I can feel that the rack is moving a bit when I touch it, and when Jocelijne quickly moves the steering wheel I can feel the knock at the same time

As far as I can see it's just replacing the mounts, but they are in rubbers, and the best way seems to be changing the rubbers...

It could also be a cracked mounting. It would be best to get the rubber mountings, and then closely check the brackets when you remove them for damage.

this has me scratching my head

but had a think about it and a check up in other places has suggested the subfram mounts may be loose or worn
