Have been doing a little reading on I2C communications, and I'm beginning to think this is the protocol used. I'm no electronics wizz, electrics I can do in my sleep, electronics I'm out of my depth very quickly.
Can anybody confirm this?
Also I'm thinking If (and it is if) aftermarket headunits use this protocol to put the info on the front display, then if these wires could be found and tapped, they could possibly be used to drive the mid/tid display aswell.
I know the sony/kenwood ones do all this out of the box, but I'm not desperate to pay that kind of money for less overall functionality than I get at the moment with my tevion unit.
My tevion unit, has unused pins but their support number is duff (not suprisingly) so no chance of getting through to a guy in the know as to what the extra pins are for.
Anyway yeah, any info welcome, I'm playing around with a spare display at the mo, but need to get a head unit to carry on the experiments with.

if you could turn up anything when you get a minute Lee that would be handy. But if not don't worry, this i2c protocol looks like its really simple stuff, as in it only needs two wires, which are called clock line and data line, which are mentioned here in this pinout

No worries, I'm still sorting my PC from its recent motherboard failure, but once I've got all my new backups sorted, and everything set back up I'll have a peek. I've not even installed Virtualbox yet so can't access my virtual OS' to find out anything. lol.
I spent all of yesterday overclocking and then stress testing my PC to make sure it was safe. In truth I couldn't be arsed with having to install so much software after finally getting it all working again! haha.
I noticed on mine since I've fitted the illuminated steering controls and joined the two wires (grey to grey/yellow) when i switch side lights on the date disappears from my MID, all controls lights etc work fine so it doesnt really matter as its an after market headunit, it looks really cool so just curious.
But I still don't like having to re-install everything, as I've so much software, and VirtualBox is a nightmare as I now have 12 Virtual OS' - Setting them up and manually mapping drives is a pain in the ..... LOL.
I'm finding loads of info on the net, the more I dig the more I find, seems that the display uses a third wire in addition to the scl and sda lines there is the mrq as mentioned in the pinout from mike20dti, this wire is used to initiate the comms. between the radio and display.
there are people on the net making them display all sorts of stuff, but no one specifically making them after market head unit friendly.

Right guys sorry to resurect this thread, essentially I am out of my depth for the moment on trying to get anything displayed on the MID.
Now that Im in the blue vec, I'm after another head unit, have done ALOT of reading and kenwood, sony, alpine pioneer etc all do HU's that can interface with steering wheel controls (which I've come to love). Sony and kenwood do ones that also work with the display when using additional adaptors.
I'm leaning in a kenwood direction, as its cheaper basically, and looking at the BT8044U head unit, and PC99-X06-DIS adaptor setup, which will handle steering wheel controls and display.
BUT
All the info on that adaptor set up says it'll only work with TID, not BID, CID, or GID
displays, but no mention of MID, given that any vectra with a TID, can be upgraded to a MID, and the fact that vauxhall supplied both TID and MID cars with the same original radio's, it seems a fair assumption that it would work with MID.
Can anyone confirm that? Thanks

I'm still not entirely sure it won't work, or will for that matter. I guess the only thing to do is try.
I think it'll likely be fine as the trip computer has always worked without the factory stereo in my previous cars, so it appears separate to the radio function.
