I think of things this way.

A wise man can learn more from a foolish question than a fool can learn from a wise answer.

There's several way to do a job correctly, though chewing gum isnt one of them...or those awful connectors you crimp on to the wire seen so many of those short out.

In my days at Peugeot, we used to use solder crimps to repair wiring connections where plugs were failing.

They were ingenious... Basically it was a ring of solder in the centre of a in-line crimp, completely sleeved in heat shrinkable material. You just inserted the wires in each end, then used a heater ring on a soldering iron to melt the solder, then ran it top to bottom to then melt the heat shrink material.

Then hey presto, one proper soldered joint, completely sealed from water/moisture, grit and dirt.

I found loads when I moved to Ford.. It wasn't until I needed some a few years later and finally found them I realised the price - Over £1 each! I never used them again! lol.

Good old 205's! I had several, including a 1.9 Mi16 converted T34 turbo breathing monster. Oh those were the days!

I often think to myself I should get another one; very few cars are as fun!

My son has just had a safety check, he needs for his !986 mk I :- a complete rear axle assembly - torsion bars are shot, o/s front hub as lower ball joint is shot as it might have damaged the hub and last but not least a cv boot. Scappies for the axle and hub, obviously, now have to wait until Monday!

You could fit a 1.9 GTi rear axle easy enough; Giving him the advantage of rear disc brakes.

Another quick tip. Get a rear axle thats complete. The rear shocks are setup, and tightened using special jigging - They have to be preloaded before tightening, so don't disturb them. Just remove the whole rear beam complete from the rear of the shell. Believe it or not, its only 4 (or it might be 6) bolts that fix it to the frame.

Last time I did the conversion myself (I started with a 1.6 GTi) it only took me 1 1/2hrs at work. Though I did spend longer on the brake pipes, as I replaced every single one with new piping.
