Default Suggestion - oil leak from low level warning sensor

This is a common problem with the veccys, so other than taking the sump off and replacing the 50p O seal (already have one lol).

I was thinking of using black hi-temp engine sealant neatly applied arround the sensor, this would cure - job done.

How have other members tackled this?

Remove the sump, and change the seal mate.

I would seriously consider purchasing a new oil level sensor as well, as I've changed them in the past and then had to do it again because the sensor had a hairline crack.

I've never seen one repaired correctly with sealant yet, if anything its a temp solution and in every case I've had to drop the sump at a later date, so might as well do it now.

Its not that hard a job, just make sure you get a new sump gasket (genuine only).

I'll leave it with you for the day and I will go shopping lol

I know what you mean I have seen some terrible attempts and that is what I had thought, I'm being fussy here and in a fix it mood lol as the leak isnt a new one 18 months and it isnt a bad one - check the levels daily and signs under car in the morning. Same place even if I rotate the sensor and I wipe the sump after a long run.

Thanks leeky, one thing when I was thinking of doing it before the dealer did say to use black jointing compound as there isnt a gasket on my sump - its cast alluminium.

Thats correct. I couldn't remember if there was two types at the time of writting. Get some decent sealant and make you sure clean both the sumps mating face, and the engine block so they are absolutely smooth, ready for the sealant.

Its a bit of a pig to do, but given what I've already heard you've done to your car, I can't see you struggling with it.

The leaking is caused by the seal flattening over time, and then allowing the hot oil to seek past it. A new seal (though I still recommend a new sensor) and once its refitted bobs your uncle. Make sure you seal the sump properly, or it'll leak all over the place! lol.

Yes the radiator was the biggest to date, the sump does seem less complicated and I now have decent axle stands - worried about snapping the exhaust manifold bolts off too be honest.

I did buy the correct sealant used that when doing the air leaks lol need to recover from the rad job, let the cuts heal and the oil stained nails lol, enjoy the car for a bit before starting anything big.

drop the down pipes as the manifold studs have a habit of snapping making a quick job harder and mor expensive

They'll be OK, just give them a good wire brush before trying to undo them.

I'm yet to have one snap yet, and I lost count of the amount I've removed a long time ago. lol.
