Default cruise control

Correct me if I am wrong...

I have heard that my car can have cruise control, just by fitting the stalk...

Is this true? or is there more I need....

I think you will need the stalk and another bit that attaches to the throttle body.
there is a pic in the link but its not included in that sale.

its a cheap ish job you need the stalk £20-£30 on its own sometimes and you need the clutch switch and brake switch then the bracket for the throttle body and it should all work if not tech 2 needs to be attached to sort it you can get the full kit 2nd hand for about £50 if you can find the full one that is

Nice idea if you do loads of motorway driving so the mod pays for itself and there are no roadworks lol but for me it takes away the pleasure of driving.

Now that feature the ...think its the Audi's have where it senses a hazard you have missed or before you see and slows the car down...mobile speed camera's etc, do fancy that one

yes thats true, as its hard to stick to 56mph with all that power beneath your foot. I do the Cardiff to Manchester and Cardiff to London runs, quite frequently and it would be nice just to set the cruise speed...then relax. Especially as I can only claim back distance travelled not fuel used

Cruise control on the Vectra B can be confusing.

There are two cruise control systems:
  1. Mechanical cruise control.
  2. Electronic cruise control

Mechanical cruise control is for prefacelift, mechanical throttle cars, with the cable throttle. For this, you need the cruise control ECU (which is fitted on the lower passenger side suspension turret, and requires the completing throttle cable, plus the twin bracket which fits it to the throttle body. You also require a clutch switch, and on some models you need to fit the later type cruise enabled brake switch as well. This is on top of the cruise control indicator stalk. This conversion does not require tech 2.

Electronic cruise control is fitted to facelift models with electronic throttle control systems. e.g. they don't have a throttle cable, they use wires and a throttle sensor instead. On these models you only need the stalk, and the clutch switch - But on some engines they need to be enabled with tech2 first.

On both types, auto's obviously don't need clutch switches.

McOlaf:

You need the actual Cruise control ECU complete with its throttle linkage (from a X25XE), plus the throttle bracket and fittings to enable both throttle cables to be fitted to the throttle body linkage. You also need the cruise control stalk from a cruise enabled Vectra B.

The plug for the cruise control is usually clipped to the brake pipe down the back of the suspension turret. If you look closely you'll see the two thread studs its fitted to. Have fun, its a really awkward place to fit it!
