Default Re: Engine ticking

Thread moved to the correct forum for you.

The noise is probably one of two things:

1. The hydraulic tappets are noisy. Some fresh oil might release some of the noise.
2. Your camshafts are worn, and are noisy due to this wear.

It has also been known to be the EGR valve ticking due to a small leak as well. So well worth checking the EGR valve to see for damage/leaks. Manifolds can also make a similar noise when they are leaking (very lightly) as well.

Did you use all new gaskets when doing the head gasket? If you never replaced the exhaust manifold gasket I would advise this along with the EGR gaskets as these are easily replaced for small money.

That is of course assuming no damage was done during the head gasket replacement.
