Default Noise is back :( but progress :)

Well yesterday the noise I had been describing came back with a vengence...however the garage today discovered 3 codes had been logged, as the car is now running smoothly and no loss of power.

Injector 6, knock sensor - bank 1 and crankshaft sensor - all indicating voltage drop problems.

So the conclusion the garage have come to is when the car landed with a thump that dislodged a connector(s) - had this before with the damp on the crankshaft sensor and it is a known prob with the x25xe.

So its going to be manifold off and check every connection (WD40 on each).

Of course I will be blanking the EGR and refitting the Bosch Super 4's

Also had a coolant leak from top hose when under pressure that was spraying coolant on to the air filter but that's down to those standard clips which I will change to a screw type - so a filter clean will also be needed.

so do I, its taken a lot of the pleasure away. Still 99.99% of the time the car runs smoothly with no performance issues and if it was serious it would be all the time, which it isn't.

God it was so easy with a coil, distributor, points and capacitor lol

Nah, hand me a fuel injected car any day!

It might be a connector breaking down. Anything could happen if that was the case. I'd just remove the connectors and spray them with electrical contact cleaner and then refit. If your worried about conductivity you could fill the connectors with some vasoline, which is a petroleum jelly and perfectly safe in guarding against moisture.

I would advise you use electrical contact cleaner, and not WD40 though. The reason is the contact cleaner will flush moisture out, leaving the contact cleaner in place, which will then evaporate away leaving it totally dry. WD40 will leave an oily residue that will just attract grit and dirt to stick, and will not dry.

I think this all goes back to the car landing with a thump.
Good suggestion with using electrial contact cleaner, never thought of vasoline though - I image I would coat the plug and socket to form a barrier keeping clear of the newly cleaned contacts.

To be honest, contact cleaner is more than suitable for the job at hand. It works wonders, and I always have a couple of cans of it in my lubricants shelves.

best I don't talk about my shiny new knob that glows when you grip it or the thick and heavy shaft, I have for the gear stick and handbrake then

Seriously I think your first suggest was sound, but what I will do is clean the contacts and as I reconnect put a sealing ring of vasoline to make it water tight. I have this yellow engine-dressing split tube so I can tidy-up the harness after I have insulated it
