here goes ok i bought a 2000 vectra 2.0 sri on sunday yesterday i noticed knocking on idle and when i rev while idling when warm yet at the moment not heard any noise while driving would this be the big end shells???
Ouchies, to be honest I'd change it for another engine if I was you. For the cost of a replacement X20XEV its not worth repairing your engine mate, I'm afraid to say!
You should be able to pick up a X20XEV for £50-100, you'll be wise to also replace the clutch, slave cylinder and also change the cambelt an water pump etc. So add another £200-300 for that mate. If you can get an engine with history, and it doesnt need the cambelt etc even better.
The problem is it won't be worth much with the engine on the way out.
You could do it slightly different... Buy an accident damaged 2.5 V6 Vectra, for a £100-200 notes, and then transfer the V6 and wiring loom over and you have an instant V6!
If you really want to do it on a budget, you could just replace the engine. The cambelt can be done later (assuming its been previously changed... Cambelts need doing at 40/80/120/160k.. Every 40k miles basically. If you want to take a risk with the slave cylinder and clutch you could re-use them too. Normal practice is to replace at least the slave cylinder though.
Local scrap yards, ebay, classified's, owners club's for sale area's etc...
Loads of places mate.
To be honest, without sounding harsh, it wouldnt be worth much even with a full MOT dude. If the engine is knackered, it will instantly half the value.
From my personal perspective, if I was to purchase a prefacelift with a U/S engine, I'd only pay upto £300 ish dependant on the spec... but I wouldnt even bother with an LS/GLS etc.. If someone has the engine it would obviously be worth more.
ok thanks for your help and advice leeky much appreciated m8 guess ill look for new engine lol
No worries, you'll be glad once you've changed it anyway. As others will tell you, most that change from a Vectra always seem to return several months later!
I've had loads, and always come back for more. There is nicer cars for sure, but for the money, and what it offers you, not much can match them.
