Default How you check loom for electric rear windows

To check if you have the wiring loom installed to fit electric rear windows you need to remove this plug, which is located between the front and rear doors (both doors need to be open to remove it)

Pull the seal out from the rear most facing bung (it has the wiring running to the door). Disconnect the connector, the loom in the door (with manual windows) has this connector and pin-outs:

If the other end of the connector (from the car loom) is the same as this, you DONT have the wiring for electric windows. However, if the plug is full of pins (all but 2 pins were used on my car loom plug) then you do. Its that simple to check beforehand.

I did it blind, until removing the plug to connect the loom - I was prepared to re-wire the car though. Hopefully the ST I'm breaking will have the loom as well, so I can trace it back, and possibly either make the looms for other people, and at least find out where it all goes.

Hope this helps you all considering doing the rear electric window conversion. I'll write a how-to guide up this afternoon hopefully and put it all in there.

To do the conversion you need:
  1. Both rear electric regulators
  2. both rear electric door looms
  3. both door switches to use windows in rear
  4. the 4 switch electric gear surround buttons
  5. 10x rivets to re-rivet the regulators in place
  6. some tie-wraps and insulation tape
  7. 2x 25mm bungs to cover the holes from the winders

There might be more, thats all I can remember for now... I'll do a how-to guide later and put it all in there.

I've just been speaking with Donna about this, as there was a post on VV.OC regarding the same thing earlier.

Apparently you can tell by just removing the coin tray and checking the wiring on the blue and green connectors as well. Which is obviously a lot easier than the way I mentioned.

I'll read through a few wiring diagrams I have and then put a how-to together soon stating how you wire the electrics in for those that don't have them already. There are a few how-to guides off of this forum that can be used, but I would rather get permission before using them - If I can use them, then all is cool, if not I'll have to do it the hard way! LOL.

If yours doesnt have electrics for the rear Tom we could use your car for the how-to if you like - I'm fairly certain my ST has the wiring so I can remove that in advance. Its alot of work though, and requires both front seats removing and the carpets pulling back... It depends how much you want it!

Ahh, it kills time while I'm unable to work, and provides me with distractions that keep me occupied!

Donna has just happily told me that a very kind member on VV.OC and V.S has kindly granted us permission to use his how-to guide. Having just seen it, it is about as perfect as you could get it as it is. Its a real credit to its creater really!

So the question is: How much do you want rear electric windows Tom? Its doable, but time consuming: If you can afford the time then I can dude.

I'll get the how-to up shortly.

Wicked. Thanks to him from me too

And if you're prepared to do it (I'll help however I can.. maybe smoke lots of cigs and drink coca-cola) then you can have me and my car for the day lol.

Will need to know what I need to buy for the job in hand.. although I'm sure you've already listed this for me.. somewhere.

I'll need your car for the day, but can also do those other things needed as well. You'll need to nip over at some point though Tom so I can confirm if we even need to fit the loom.

Once I know the state of play I'll draw a list up. the likelihood is I have a spare loom if needed anyway.

The how-to guide now here. I have uploaded it exactly as it was. This purely the effort of Mike_DTi on VV.OC, and used with his complete consent. Thank you to my girlfriend Donna as well, for discussing it with him in the first place!

Thank you Mike.
