firstly are you anywhere near cardiff etc as ive got an opcom and would be willing to check the car over for you if ur local to me.
engine management light normally means something sensor related has packed up or is in the process of packing up, most of the time the car runs fine, theres only a few exceptions (crank sensor, maf, knock sensor these either stop the engine running completely or make it run like a bag of bolts).
when you say engine mangement light is it the picture of the engine or the car with the spanner as there is a difference in what it could mean.
with regards to the ABS fault, you should be getting an orange light on your dash that looks similar to this (ABS) if your abs has packed up, if there is no light there is a chance the prev owner has removed the bulb. most common fault to stop the abs working is the sensor rings on the driveshafts, they snap or crack and stop it working correctly. gotta replace mine shortly cause of this problem.
let us know and pm me if ur local to me and i will see what i can do mate.
