Default Power problems. X20XEV

My vectra 2.0 seems to rev to 5.5k and then bounce as if its limited.

The EML is on and the fault comes back relating to the camshaft sensor. The car drives ok, will tootle along at 80ish with no problems.

Now a couple of questions.

Would the camshaft sensor cause the rev limiting effect?

Would above cause the emissions to read wrong?

I'm trying to get the car through the MOT and it repeatedly fails on the gas test (CO & Lambda) HC read within spec.

Now the lambda sensor has been replaced, this has improved things alot, CO down from 1.7% to 0.8% and the lambda levels now drops when you blip the accelerator.

I have sealed a minor gasket leak on the exhaust downpipe and i have a gas test at 8am but want to get the advice so i can press on and work at it before i end up driving the car to a field and burying it

it's deffo an emissions fault by the sound of things, as long as the exhaust system is up to snuff you should be ok m8. I'd get up bright and early and give it a good razz before taking it in in the morning, also se if you can detect any other leaks. Good luck with the test m8, fingers crossed

a few tricks have used in the past are

1. remove the filter pad for the emissions test.
2. on the way redline in each gear as it will clear any crap stuck in the exhaust system.

redlining it doesn't work, mainly because it won't get to the redline lol... see above

Even keeping the revs up at 5.5-6k also doesn't work. This is it's third emissions test now.

when you say remove the filter, do you mean the air filter? What difference would that make?

Tried running some Redex through the system to see if that helps?

Don't forget to do it with a full tank of fuel. I made this mistake once and left thick smoke clouds behind me all the way down the road.

Might be worth a shot.

Well.. not going to sort your limited revs problem.. but before you try get it past the emissions test next time, try run all your fuel out, then fill up with Shell Optimax.

Believe me- it helps.

However.. don't you know anyone from the motor trade? Emissions failing your car o the MOT.. damn mate that sucks.

I don't ask questions when mines done.. I know if there was anything serious I would know about it in the form of a failure note, but emissions.. FFS. Bloody jobsworths.

Carb cleaner.. another cheap thing to try. Always been a fan of carb cleaners and Redex.

to answer your first question yes camshaft sensor will affect the revs, but normally in "limp mode" it wont rev over 4.5k

the guy i use would normally let it go if it was near enough but VOSA have been crawling around the last few weeks, on of the other garages i have used for MOT's in the past has been done twice in the last 2 months.

I will see what i get with the leaky joint sealed.
