paper clip test
paper clip test hope this helps
first up lets show you how to do the paper clip test. please note this may not work with your car either due to year of make or on some models due to the fact some cars dont have pin 6.
you may also find some of the other pins are missing.
pin 16 is a 12 volt supply so dont use this pin. pins 4 and 5 are ground.
pins 3, 7, 8 and 12 are the wires the tech 2 uses to read the different systems as far as i know and pin 6 is the wire we want so we can flash the engine tell tale on the dash.
now all we do is link out pins 4 or 5 and 6 (the two smaller pics show the exact locations of the pins) and turn on the ignition (or start the engine as is gets rid of any false codes). then the ecu lamp will flash and all you do is take a note of the flashes which represent a code. it flashes the first number of the code then pauses, then starts to flash the next number of the code, pause ,then the next, pause, then the last.
so if you get 10 flashes, pause, 3 flashes, pause, 4 flashes pause then 10 flashes you have the code 0340 which is the camshaft sensor. if thats the only code then it will start at the beginning again and repeat itself. if there are more codes then it will flash the next code until the last code is displayed then start at the beginning again.
it may be possible to read the other systems but in my opinion its unlikely as they dont have the extra "blink code wire" but this diagram will give you a rough idea of which pins to use if you want to try and read a code in a system other than the ecu. so say you want to read the abs you would use pin 12 and either 4 and 5. please bear in mind i have no idea what will happen if you try this its just a guide if anyone wants to try it.
