The cold doesn't bother me too much tbh- it's just the rain that stops me going out to work on the car.

-------------------

A little progress today with my tracking? ... Went and had it tracked again, but was no change. So went back, got it done again- still... no change!

I then popped over to see Leeky to find out how to remove the steering wheel as it obviously needed turning round so it would sit straight.

When I got there, he was hard at work standing around trying to hold off cleaning the rest of his saaaab (Car was nice & shiny, but the wheels were still mingin- slacker!!).

Anyway thanks once again to that man- he took the steering wheel off like a pro within a matter of minutes, turned it a few splines and refitted- the wheel is no longer offset to the left at all... YAY!

...However it's now offset to the right lol. It's not too much though, so hopefully tomorrow I'll go get my uncle to do the tracking again which SHOULD straighten it up

Lee also managed to get my stereo working for me, but I've had to disconnect it this evening as it turns itself back on after about 15 minutes even after the car's locked up (I'll investigate this soon!).

Today I fitted the new flat blade wipers, and went & picked up some oil for the service at the weekend.. although I've got the wrong stuff (I think!). I was given 5/40 but the bottle VX gave me for my old vec, which still has a little bit left, is still in the garage and that's 10/40 so need to inquire about that tomorrow.

Anyway moving on...

I have a VERY busy day a**** tomorrow, and since I've already done NO WORK WHATSOEVER this week, I've decided to have another day off and get back on it Monday! So... I'm hoping to go pick up the repair kit for the oil pressure switch from the auto-sparks, ready for the weekend.

I'll also be going to get some paint mixed up for my plenums, some new injector seals, and some gunk for cleaning inside the plenums/ oil catch tank once they're off.

Once I've collected all this stuff, I'll be giving the car a quick clean & hoover as it's filthy- so I'll grab some pics as this project thread's looking a bit poo with none at the moment.

I also now have a few more jobs on the list for the weekend... providing the parts arrive in time-
  • -50mm springs to fit all round (Just hope they're OK on the standard GSI shocks!)
  • A piece of bling for under the bonnet (Gotta start somewhere!)
Pics & details to come tomorrow, providing I don't pass out with all this running around lol

Mate, those -50mm springs are not going to like your GSi (read as SRi) shocks! Your last 2.6's front end rings a bell!! LOOOL.

As I said, if I moved it over a spline on the steering wheel it would then face ever so slightly to the left again. You need to get your buddy to track it back to centre from the wheel again, and then job should be a goodun.

If you have a few mins tomorrow then pop back over and I'll remove the stereo and check the wiring for you. Bring your stereo keys as mine seem to be MIA.

P.S. I now have 4 shiny alloy wheels on the Saaaaaab, but.... Its still not been cleaned inside and I couldnt be bothered to wax/polish it either.

Yeh already phoned my uncle he said to pop down tomorrow and see him so he can try adjusting the tracking to straighten it up.

I really do think I done something wrong on the SRI.. maybe I should have fitted the GSI top mounts or something rather than my SRI ones. I really can't see them being a problem as only one side had problems if you remember.

Oh well- I'll know by the end of the weekend I suppose so maybe have a set of springs for sale soon if they don't work out. Either that or a 'wanted' thread, looking for some shocks lol.

Stereo- I've already got it out, and the black cage.. tomorrow I'll check the wiring and fit a normal cage as I think it's just where the unit isn't pushing in far enough to the chocolate block and that's why it's being a bit dodgy.

Will post results tomorrow.

Ps. well done for HALF-cleaning the saaaab

GSi suspension is SRi suspension. They are the same thing as MSD never touched the suspension on GSi's when they converted them. So I'm guessing your going to have the same issue as before, but I could be wrong.

I was kinda hoping you'd come over with your dodo juice and show me how to clean it properly??

That's what I mean mate- Sorry.. if you remember correctly I used the top mounts from my COBRA shocks, on the GSI/ SRI shocks that I got from you.

However only one side had problems if you remember correctly, meaning one side was fine, and therefore they SHOULD be OK.. Time will tell I guess.

I'll also buy a set of polyurethane bump-stops if Im able to get some from somewhere this weekend (Powerflex ones probably) and whack them on as I don't think those huge foam ones are any good on the long dampers with short springs. Failing that- I'll cut the foam ones in half as that should be plenty.

Better still- I'll give Eibach a call and see what they say about fitting them to standard shocks.

Me.. clean your car? haha! You saw the state of mine today lol!

I'll show you what a clean car is sometime before next weekend as I'll have about 5 coats of wax on mine by then lol.

Cleaning is boring, I'd rather take the engine out and put it back instead. lol.

I thought the whole front end was like a bouncing ball?

P.S. My finger I nearly tore off that day still hasnt healed yet. lol.

Well if I get a 3.2 lump, you can swap it over into my car in place of the 2.6, and I'll get your car cleaner than you could ever imagine

Yes it was like a bouncy ball- and that can be put down to the 3 foot tall foam bump stops we put on the shocks with -40mm lowering springs lol.

Aww.. plaster? You've got 9 more so stop complaining lol!

Plasters...Phoebe has a thing for them... If she has a cut the size of the sharp end of a pin she needs a plaster..So usually we bleed until it stops as there isnt any left. lol.

3ft tall... LOL. I dont think they helped one bit, no. But then I dont lower my cars that much, I'm an old fuddy these days. lol.

If I did your engine conversion you'd have a large bill!! You'd be polishing my car all weekend for a fair few months before you were clear of that cost believe me! haha.

Jokes aside, those days are gone. I don't mind offering advice, or even helping, but I just can't physically do it anymore due to my health - So even I will be using help to get mine done on the ST200. Or it'll take forever. lol.

No huge rush tbh as I'll prob just wait until the 2.6 lump goes pop before turning to a 3.2 lump lol
