Default Project - "More Poke"

Dunno if this is a good idea or not, so i've started anyway lol..

I've got an 11 year old VecB 1.8LS.....with 108,794 miles on the clock.
All the engine parts are original bar the usuals like plugs, leads and the cam belt. needless to say its very worn and now feels like 4bhp is a luxoury.

i've got another 1.8 engine from a similarly aged SRi thats done 83,000 miles.

It looked fine but thought whilst i'd got an engine to play with i might as well rebuild it from scratch. Now it's a mad concept seeing as i know as much about engines as i do about how to elect a new pope, anyhoo stripping started four days ago.

problem number 1, all the pipes going to the cam cover are full and nearly blocked by what i can only describe as crushed charcoal like what you get in the bottom of your BBQ bags. any ideas??

in the process i've got bored of fitting cam cover gaskets to the engine thats in and after finding out that the cover is warped and twisted in 3 places i've cleaned up and used the cover off the spare engine.. and used the old gasket. it's looking like its worked so thats the 5ltr a week oil problem gone lol.

got a few ideas and will definately be needing some guidance on a few things..

the spare engine is almost stripped now, just need to get head off and gut the block.

Part 1 - complete lol.

The "charcoal" is carbon..you need to clean them out.

Put them in a bucket with a degreaser and let them soak for a day or so it will soften the cr@p in the pipes.

Also, number each rod and piston as you remove them (if your going to bare block) and take plenty of pics, as they will need to go back in, in the exact same places.
