As you should all know- In order to buy & sell on VVON, you need to become a Platinum Verified member.

Over the months, I've been looking at ways that we could make the sales system work better for our members, and here's what I've come up with... With the new system in place:

Unregistered/ not logged in members will be able to:

View the sales threads/ cars for sale threads, but not be able to reply obviously until they register

Registered members will be able to:

View the sales sections, meaning they can now BUY without becoming Platinum Verified
Reply to others' threads within in the sales sections
Post 'Wanted' threads, and reply within those threads, although they cannot view others' 'Wanted threads', since you are not permitted to sell.
View and reply to 'Cars for sale' threads

Platinum members will also be able to:

Post new threads in the 'Cars for sale' section

Platinum Verified members will also be able to:

View & reply to ALL 'Wanted' threads
Post items for sale
Post in the 'What's it worth' section
Openly talk about items they have for sale in general conversation throughout the forum, although the actual sale must be done within a sales forum (Otherwise they will NOT be able to give or receive feedback for that sale).

I know it's still not the same system most forums use, but we ARE different- Nobodies ever been ripped off by dealing through VVON, and I intend to keep it this way.

So here's a few questions:

What do you all think about my proposals?
If you're a current Platinum Verified member- Do you have any objections to this? After all- you will be loosing some exclusivity as EVERYONE will then be able to view the sales sections. However on the plus side- You will have a lot more people viewing your 'For sale' threads.
Do you have any other comments/ suggestions regarding this topic?

I personally would make everyone wanting to buy from the for sale section pay Ie liek £1, and get the address as if they were to become a plat member, this way if anything happened you have an address and number etc,

Not quite sure what you mean Neil. Can you be clearer?

Neil means (I think) that everyone who trades on here, should pay towards it, therefore they are also on the file with addresses should any disputes arrise.

In principal I agree with this, but it however limits vastly those that can see the item for sale. Its not the buyers that are often the problem though, its the sellers on other forums. My having the sellers address, its an extra safety net. Unless your platinum vertified I really dont think anyone should eb allowed to sell personally, but I dont see why normal members should be pushed from buying items, or seeing items for sale - At the end of the day the seller can ensure security by selling items and then sending them recorded, so proof of payment and delivery can be obtained.

I have for say a widget for £50 plus postage. In order purchaser to complete they pay me £50 and VVON £1 or they pay me £51 and i pay VVON £1.

Basically a comission on each say, might be better as a percentage.

TBH Im not sure if taking this away from platinum is good, I think all it leaves is the platinum lougne or whatever it is called, sorry.

ok I think I get what you mean.

But... plans are not to charge any money.. It's to give you people who have PAID to be a Platinum Verified member, more chance of actually selling your item. By allowing all members to see your threads.

Yes I COULD add a system so that when you list an item for sale- you're charged say 5pence, but I have no interest in taking any more money from you guys- You've paid your platinum membership, then paid your money to become verified.

Cowby- unsure what you mean. Taking what away from Platinum?

Lets not forget- Platinum members don't just have the platinum lounge, but access to many other features on the forum such as the arcade, casino, VVTube, etc..... And remember- Platinum membership is now only £2.50, and that membership lasts for the eternity of the website.

the idea of platinum verfied was that tom had our details and dont see a problem with this if you become vrfied you can sell replie and talkabout what you have for sale on the forum it means people who come on sites just to sell some old rubbish then never come on again have to put some money back into the site which may keep them here or not but the ones that wont pay can sometimes not be benifical to the site and cause problems and i think toms new rules are ok and will work well but none platinum members can still pm the seller of a item could this cause a problem ?

Nearly hit the nail on the head there Matt.

Platinum verified is chargeable once per year- this is so that I have an up-to-date record of sellers' addresses on file, incase anything bad should happen.

It's a non-profit thing, and only done for peace of mind for our members.

No.

With my new rules- ANYONE will be able to BUY from a Verified member.

Only Verified members will be able to sell (legally).

I'm now going to explain WHY non-verified members are unable to see sales threads posted by Verified members at present.

Here's a scenario...

Verified member posts a sales thread (Nokia N95, £80)
Normal member 1 replies within the thread expressing interest in the item
Normal member 2 see's this reply, and PM's him, pretending to have one for sale- "Yours for £60 cash."
Normal member 1 sends him £60, receives no goods, and has now been ripped off.

OK- It's Normal member 1's own fault for not following the help VVON provide (Verification program). However- He's still going to come crying to VVON for help.

So what I done to stop things like this happening was- made all sales threads viewable ONLY to verified members- Problem solved.

However... I feel that the verified members have been losing out because of this.

Why?

Because by limiting viewings to only verified members, it's reducing the possible buyers considerably.

So what I've proposed, and am now going ahead with is this.

Yes... my scenario could now become reality. BUT- If people are careful, and only BUY from VERIFIED members, they won't have a problem. (Or if they do, their details are on file)

If you do choose to buy an item from someone that's NOT verified and you get ripped off- It'll be your own fault, and VVON will take no responsibility whatsoever.

Anyway as said- I'm going ahead with this now, and there'll be a new thread up soon detailing exactly how things now stand.

But if you have any ideas/ suggestions to help make this even better, fire away.
