Default Question regarding mini WIFI cards in laptops

I have a strange problem with the WIFI card in one of my laptops. After a while, once the laptop gets hot, the WIFI signal begins to cut in and out, continually killing the wireless connection with our router, then immediately connecting over and over and over.

I had an old laptop that isnt used anymore so I used the card out of that, and put it in the laptop. It would not even see the card in the hardware page, and no matter what I did, after installing it several times it would not recognise a card was in the slot.. I then put the old, what I believe to be faulty card back in, and it recognised new hardware.

So my question is does it have to be made by the correct manufacturer to work with the motherboard on our HP compac laptop? The faulty one is a Broadcom, and I think the one I was trying to use was a Realtek... Both 'G' ones though!

Is the WIFI card at fault, or should I be looking elsewhere??

Not quite sure tbh, however that's VERY strange that the laptop getting hot is causing the WIFI signal to weaken. Never heard of that before.

Its probably totally unrelated, but it does seem like it begins to play up after its been used for an hour or so and its warm. It never does it when I first turn it on. I'm not too fussed as I have a new laptop arriving tomorrow anyway.
