WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service Legend for above * = This controls the fancy bits in Windows Aero, leave alone if use Aero though this is a Very Hungry Service. ~ = Required if internet provider requires it, I do not believe that many do. Disable it and test network connectivity, if Internet fails Re-Start it. + = Manages removable storage devices to interface with WMP and image import. May be needed for MP3 players and Digital Cameras. This does not effect MP3 Players and Camera's connecting to Windows, only effects Synchronizing with WMPlayer. # = Some internet providers may require it, but most do not. If your internet fails to work after disabling this, then set it back to Manual. > = If you have your own Security Suite ie ESET, KASPERSKY,NORTON Etc. Etc. you are 100% safe Disabling this annoying service and freeing up a considerable amount of Resource. } = Most likely you don't need this unless you know otherwise. @ = If you have your own Anti-Virus/Security Suite installed you are 100% safe Disabling this Hungry Service. After Disabling you may get a pop up at Re-Boot saying it cannot be started, just open your Start-Up items via RUN - MSCONFIG - STARTUP and untick Windows Defender to stop the annoying message! % = If you bought Ultimate for the media center parts, probably don't disable it. Seems to just launch media center software at startup. ^ = Windows Search is a greedy bitch. I dont see the point in this service cos im an organized person and know where my files are on my Computer, if you are un-organized and have to search for files on your computer then leave it alone, but you will regret it in the end.
This service uses a lot of Resources and Disabling alone does not stop it 100%.
See Windows Search guide below for how to get rid of it for good!
Windows Search Guide
After Disabling Windows Search go to My Computer and Right Click your Hard Drive then click properties.
Untick "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching" click apply and a box pops up, choose Apply changes to Subfolders and files and click ok.
Click Ignore all warnings if it pops up.
Then wait for Windows to get rid of all indexing crap. May take a few minutes.
