can we have chat box back in some form, even if only for platinum members.

perhaps located at bottom of home page.

although i detest msn i do miss chat box and im sure with some intial rules we could all behave and those that dont get a chat box ban.

do other members feel the same ?

Yeah I'd like to see the chatbox again, but would hate anyone to f*ck things up. The problem we have, is if someone starts an inflamatory conversation, they can get others banned as well as themselves, so we do need to be really "adult" and behave ourselves should Tom see fit to re-introduce it.

Also if you (VVON staff only) read my rules link I've put up some ban ideas for abusing the chatbox. Alos, if our server provider should see any **** on there, they wont like being associated with it, more to consider than just someone gobbing off on it, as to wether it's worth putting back up.

TBH I'd be more than happy to see it back.. it did help to cut down the spam on the forums..

However- There was always a lot of talk in there that would have been a hell of a lot more useful had it been posted on the forum.

I even done it myself.. it was an easy mistake to make.

Another problem is the sales talk in there...

Only way round that is that I make the chatbox only available to Verified members.

Quite happy this threads been started tbh.. will be nice to see what SERIOUS thoughts and suggestions people have on the matter.

id like to see the chat box back for verfied members may be a idea but with a sin bin area that the mods ureself and other staff members can put some one in if they break th rules then when a mod or admin come on you can see why they were sin binned and by who so questions can be asked then banning or warnings given just a my little thought on the matter

reading this is see pro's and con's that i both agree with. i like the amount of threads there are to read when there is no chat box, but i like the flowing conversation of a live box.
if its to verified members only alot of people are going to feel pressured into becoming verified as they feel there missing out.
then sales talk would be allowed and everyone would be selling stuff in there and even less threads for me to read.
id also like to see other peoples opinions on this matter as now TOM stuck his 2p in im unsure if its a good thing to have back or not.

im leaning more towards NOT at the moment ....

maybe we could have 1 or 2 mod's specifically for the chatbox to keep an eye on posts, and issue bans for say 1 hr etc etc.

would like to see it back though

i echo busby's comments tbh, i think an hour ban, then a day ban and build it up to a week and then a total ban as by that point people just aint listenin, and i carry the mods for the chat box idea too.

although just cause your verified dont mean u have 'privilges' one rule for all ie NO SALES TALK.

1hr bans are totally out of the question. 7 days for me seems sufficient. That way it gives time for people to realise what they have actually done wrong, and time to miss it

When they are unbanned- maybe they will try harder not to get banned again.

Too much hassle for myself/ mods to ban someone, then an hour later come back and unban them.

Besides... who would really give a toss if they were banned from the chatbox for an hour?

I also propose a 3 strike system. After 3 bans from the chatbox- that's it.. your banned forever from it. I don't see why myself/ mods should need to 'nurse' members 24/7. If a rules made- it should be abided by. Fair enough everyone makes mistakes, but if you haven't learnt from your mistake after having 3 bans (21 days total), I don't see why staff should waste anymore time looking over you.

RE Selling something in the chatbox without making a thread- You then couldn't leave/ be left feedback as I have strict URL checking turned on, which requires you to provide a link to the sales thread.

The whole verification thing is there for a reason, and there's no way it can work how planned if the chatbox went back to how it was before. I just really can't be arsed with someone (unverified) coming to me and say "so & so ripped me off".

Another problem- as Ben says.. members could maybe feel pressured into forking out to get verified just to use the chatbox. I don't want to do this tbh as it's not fair if they only want to use the chatbox, but not sell.

Another thing- allowing all to use it- that's a hell of a lot more members to be keeping an eye on, and defining 'sales talk' in instant chat has in the past already led to disagreements between members/ staff, causing friction between them. So far I feel staff/ members get on rather well, staff don't 'bully' people, and in return- they are pretty much respected by everyone... I would like to see it stay this way.

Last point I can think of just now is- When the chatbox was here before, things were said by some members in the heat of the moment, which led to arguments. If the same discussion was happening in a thread- Maybe some of those things wouldn't have been said as you have more time to THINK before clicking the POST THREAD button.

Instant chat can get heated, and let's not forget just how many people we have using the site now. Not everyone shares the same opinions, or is able to keep their cool under heated discussions.

I'm probably one of these people- being a hot-head. However.. typing in a thread- I useually read it over before posting it just to make sure I am saying what I mean, and not coming across as a cock.

Although some of you might still think I'm a cock... but hey- Givea****
