I also came across something on another forum. Something I were told quite a while back, but wanted confirmation before I tried it:

I like to use a home made lube of water mixed with a small blob of car shampoo. I find it gives the clay more lubricity, which is essential if you use a very aggressive clay, such as the red Megs bar.
Great stuff! Saves spending a fortune on the lube from now on
