Been offered a new job well slightly better job with better money and slightly better hours but the problem is its a 50 ish mile a day to where it is and where I am is 4 an abit a day I work 4 shifts a week plus one on call so new job would be 250 miles aweek and a v6 aint any good as it will be stop start driving all way there and back so what would you get as a commuter car still have the bmw(unless someone wants to swap for a gsi lol) so that's sorted not really much out there..

My dad has said he will buy me a brand new car as a present not like he carnt afford it lol.

But m&m says get a small engined corsa and strip out what won't be used back seats etc lighter car better fuel consumption ? Or is there another car we have missed off that could be a possible ?

I'd go with a Astra Derv.

I wouldn't go too mad with economy, even the 150/160bhp dervs are good on fuel if driven sensibly - Long distance will be good to a tank... Very small engines will struggle with economy on motorway drives, and will be more stressed.

Just get a 120bhp Astra derv and you'll easily get a weeks driving per tank at those distances.

My previous Saab 93 TiD had the recent 1.9 CDTi 150bhp GM engine, with a chip taking it 182bhp, and even that in use everyday between where I worked and lived (approx 40miles each way) was regularly hitting 580-600 miles per tank (55ltr tank) and thats with heavy driving around town as well.

If your hitting more than 500 miles on a tank your doing well.

The cdti astra? It will be a lot of city driving well manchester center no need to use motorways from mine to manchester

They do a corsa with a cdti engine are they any good just want something small and cheap to run insurance tax etc

My Saab was £145 a year in tax... By any standards thats cheap enough for me.

If your doing lots of city driving as well, then go for the smaller corsa.
