Default engine tapping

think my top end is on its way out as i have a tapping sound coming from the top of the engine its had a oil + filter change but it has not stopped think its the cams or lifters or even both the car has done 151k it only seems to do it when the engine is worm oil pressure is fine as the light done come on the oil level is spot on and it has a good quality oil in it

What oil did you use ?

Was it semi or fully synthetic?

What weight was it I.e 15/30 ?

Did you use a engine flush ?

Did you notice a tap before the oil change ?

Does it sound more like a clicking or a drumming ?

used castol gtx semi synth
just changed the oil again and put 10w/40 and its made no differance
think its down to the lifters
the thing is when i took it for mot the guy was revving it to red line and help it there
after i got it back it was tapping like mad then stopped and has now started
only seems to do it bad if you drive it hard

Why did the mot guy rev it too redline and hold it there ? Was there a reason for him doing it ?emissions test ?.

Something don't add up if its only done it since it was redlined and held there that won't help any engine amechanic should know that only thing I could suggest would be remove and replace/clean the lifters just unsure how easy it would be to do

Or go in to the garage speak to the manager and find out why and if they will fix it did you witness him revving it ?

They reved it so hard to clear the exhaust ad they
Said the co was to high
But I am thinking its down to oil pressure or the lifters
