Default How-to guide disappeared?

I remember a while back that Phil-h done a how-to for fitting an aux belt.. pretty certain it was for a V6.. however I can't seem to find it in the how-to section.

Anyone got a link they can share?

I don't remember seeing one, unless its an old how-to with pictures missing and thus trashed. I'll have a look in the archives for you Tom.

I found it, but its for a Z22SE, and as I thought, is missing all the pictures so of no real use.

If you'd still like it let me know and I'll move it to you.

i know its to replace the tensioner but its near enough the same thing

16mm Socket
16mm ring spanner
e14 torx socket (with small wrench)
15mm ring spanner

HOW 2:

1) Disconnect sensor wires from air box and wedge them on top of the engine out of the way. You also have to remove what looks like a vacuum tube off of small black block so that can also be hooked on top of the engine.

2) Remove air box and pipe (disconnect at jubilee clip at plenum)

3) Remove the torque mount/stabiliser (16mm Socket x 2)

3) Remove the torque mount bracket from engine (16mm socket x 3) this has to be done to make step 4 possible

4) Remove the torque mount bracket from the inner wing (16mm Socket x 2 + a 16mm ring spanner to loosen the final difficult placed bolt.

5) Release tension on auxiliary belt - this is done by using a 15mm ring spanner on the nut in the centre of the plastic tensioner pulley and forcing the whole arm clockwise. (Note: If you haven't completed step 4, when the tensioner springs back it can trap the spanner).

6) holding the tensioner forwards ease the auxiliary belt off at the water pump pulley (this is where the belt runs on its back so it is very easy) - take care to place the belt in such a way that it is obvious as to where it goes back on. Now gently release the tensioner back to its resting place.

Now we are ready to remove the old tensioner (only 2 bolts!). This is quite tricky as access it very difficult especially if you have big hands. I found looking at the new tensioner gives you a good idea of where to feel for the bolts which are round the back of the engine block. Take care to ensure the engine has cooled down!

7) Using an e14 torx socket and small wrench (I had to take my medium sized torque wrench apart so that I was left with a shorter stubby ratchet end) loosen the two torx bolts. This is tricky and takes patience to get the socket on. watch out for the thin knock sensor wire in that area too. You only need to loosen the torx bolts with the wrench this only takes about a 1/4 of a turn and then finish off with your fingers.

Refitting the the new tensioner:

I found that it was a sensible idea to put the lower torx bolt in first as the top one hinders your access to the bottom one - you would have worked this out yourself when you removed the tensioner in the first place!

The rest is pretty much the reversal of the instructions above. Once again the belt is easier to remove/attach on the smooth pulley.

Also be careful when tightening the two torx bolts on the new tensioner as the socket slips easily due to the poor access.

I hope this helps,
