have you put new wheels or suspension on it?

The clonk in the steering wheel (Like you also had on your old Vectra)... is common. If I remember rightly- Leeky said there's a solution to fix that (Wish I knew when I had mine as that ****ed me right off!).

shakey steering wheel, as you know is usually the balancing but I'm guessing you've had that checked?

Don't put a match to it!

I'll lend you a lighter

You need to check your front suspension mate. Its possible one or both of your springs have collapsed, but its not by any means a definate. Its hard to explain really, without actually seeing it for myself, but it needs looking at.

Tyre pressures can also effect the handling on the front of the car. If they are too high, it will make the car crashy over bumps. What size tyres are you using, and what suspension is fitted?

As for the power steering; when was the PAS fluid changed last? It might be worth changing it as its something you can easily do yourself without much cost.

The wheel vibration at 60 to 80mph is most likely to be wheel balancing - Unless one of those pot holes has warped one of your wheels on the front of the car mate. When you jack the car up to check the suspension spin both the front wheels... They should run absolutely true, as movement side to side or top to bottom as it spins will indicate a buckled/warped alloy wheel. You can always check the weights on the wheel whilst you do this... If there arent any, then they have come off. If your using alloy wheels they should have stick on weights, which if incorrectly fitted by not preparing the surface correctly will fly off after a while causing the wheel to become unbalanced.

The easiest way is to remove the lowest PAS bottle hose, then drain out the bottle. Re-connect then refill. You can also get treatments for it, which can help to ease it, maybe thats worth a try. Undo the PAS cap and dip your finger in and check it. IT should be bright red, if its muddy coloured its knackered and needs changing.
