Default My vec for a pre-face estate- What you all think?

Been offered a swap, and I've turned it down as I'd of wanted a facelift GSI.. But I'm now having doubts on my decision.

What do you all think?

Here's the spec & pics he's sent me (Not sure if he's a member here, but he's an MVOC member ) :

This car is very quick its not for the faint hearted, its in really good con for a 10yr old car, it really stands out from the crowd,it sounds awesome must be worth a look .history up to 95000

the only bad point is bad stone chipping to the front bumper.

Whats the mileage?

Those brakes look rather big! Possibly 4 pots? Or maybe just 308s?

I'd be tempted if it was me, the estates are actually pretty good! Its the same colour as my last 3.0 estate, and that was running 219bhp... So engine sounds very strong for a 2.5!

What ya got to lose?

Not sure tbh guess I'll need to look closer as never even noticed the brakes lol.

Mileage- Just waiting for him to get back to me about that.

2 Years of hard work, and a newer car?

I do like estates, and would absolutely LOVE a 2.6 GSI estate.. Just not sure about a pre-face. The engine is giving me the nod though

Prefacelifts are cool. If you want a facelift 2.6 GSi estate I hope your prepared to pay top, top money! They're nearly as rare as the ST200, sod all were built and thus to people like us they go for silly money.

That ticks all the right boxes to me. The difference bodywork wise is easily sorted, but that engine will be much better than a 2.6 with F23, especially since its got longer gearing, and the lightened flywheel to really get you going! You'd be suprised just how much faster it is than your 2.6.

Speak to the guy, and say you'd be prepared if you swapped your grilles over with it, and possibly your wheels (if you prefer them). That saves you some money in customising it, and all 3 items would be loving finishing touches.

You mean if I were to swap with him, I should suggest we swap those parts over?

From what I understand- the Irmscher lower grill's are different on the F/L to that of the P/F/L

Thanks Lee.. Yeh engine wise that's what's tickling my fancy and keeping me interested tbh. Looks- It's not totally to my taste- Wheels, and the pre-face dobywork... yes it could all be sorted out but it's money I don't want to be spending really. Gotta think- Could I allow it to grow on me?

As for grills.. see above

Will wait & see what mileage it has first anyway.

I dont blame ya for being interested in the engine. Mine was rapid with 2bhp more and a normal heavier than a bus flywheel... I bet this is lunatic.

Remember cambelts are due 40/80/120/160k Tom. (I'm sure you know, but just in case your not sure its there)

Pretty sure thats Dog's old car.Seen it on the RR in aberdeen and chased him up the duel caridgeway.

Got a seriously strong engine that one!!!

I still wouldn't swap it with yours though tom, unless there was a little cash your way.
Plus and 2.5 will ba a dissapointment after a 2.6

You really think so Chris?

Personally I prefer the 2.5 over the 2.6 in so many ways. I'm not a big fan of the 2.6 at all, and having owned a '02 2.6 SRi I'm glad I'm back to the 2.5's. LOL.

Thanks mate. Not heard back from him yet anyway and now in talks with a few guys about 1.8 20V Turbo Golf MK4's

As for the whole 2.5/ 2.6 thing- Having never owned a 2.5 I can't really comment, but my thoughts have always been this- Why would Vauxhall change to the 2.6 lump if it were a worse engine?

Given any Vectra GSI- I'd without a doubt want a 2.6 GSI.
