Its progression more than anything. The 2.6 also suited the emissions requirements as its a newer development.

I don't like the 2.6 because its tempremental, engine electrics/sensors are a royal pain in the bum, and I just dont like the gearing when fitted with the F23.

I've had both, and time and time again I've chosen the 2.5 with F25 over the 2.6 engine. Its preference really, and the fact that the sensors are slightly more reliable and mechanically based, like throttle control being cable rather than electronic etc. Its also easier with tuning as well, as you dont need to worry about the sensitive electronics in the engine bay panicing at the very slightest change in environment conditions. lol.

I'd never own a 2.6 GSi, only a 2.5 GSi, but then I also think they are overpriced for what they are. If I had to have a facelift last of the line model I'd choose a 2.2 CDX estate with all the toys.

I've had a 2.0st, 1,8 ls, 2.5 V6 sport, 2.5 Gsi and now 2.6 Gsi.

The two I really liked were actually the V6 sport and the 2.6 Gsi the best.

I thought the 2.5 Gsi was a let down as it really didn't live up to my expectations.
After the sport I thought it would be so so much better but it really wasn't

Then when I got the 2.6 i was blown away!

They feel so so much better in every way. Can't say i've been in a 2.6 Sri so I can't comment on them but the 2.6 is 150% the car the 2.5 Gsi was.

Cheers Matt.

I've mailed the chap back & let him know that if Mr Golf lets me down on the 28th (Which I'm pretty sure he won't as he seems like a decent bloke!)... I'll give him a call, and we will have a deal.

However after driving my Vec in the snow/ ice today I'd be very worried about how the car handles the weather lol.
