This is funny.... Neil removes an entire engine, replaces and sprays everything in sight, replaces the cambelt, and then gets it back in and the only thing thats a ball ache is a shift rod!!

Thats some luck dude!!!

The centre dash surround is easily removed, and gives you plenty of space with it out of the way. I'd be doing that rather than struggling if its anything more than a simple pin to connect.

I'll check TIS later Tom. I'm pretty sure the housing might need changing, but its possible its just the shaft.

Here you go Tom:

Finally, after this the shift cables need re-adjustment to ensure correct operation:

One good thing is you can use the gear lever from any facelift Vectra B with a F23 gearbox.

Thanks for that Lee. Will see if I can source one, and get it fitted. If not, at least the info is here for the new owner. Really appreciate that bud.

No worries. It might be worth heading to spriggys and trying to remove one from a facelift with a F23 first... It gives you an idea on how its done, and what you can get away with not doing. lol.

The pics are hosted on my server so wont be going anywhere... I tend to horde images in the hope one day it'll answer someones question again. lol.

Thanks bud I will give them a call and see how much he'd want for it at least. Was quoted between 20-£30 before, for whatever I need but lets see what they say. Since the car's going soon.. 28th or 29th.. I don't really want to spend any money on it, but if I can afford to, and get the time I'll do it to help the chap out. I've been driving around with that make-shift gear-knob for about 5-6months now and hardly notice it's like it, but to someone that's just getting into a new car- I'd imagine he maybe a bit bedazzled by the lorry-like gear stick It's about 3" higher than a standard one and wobbles) lol

It should be easily enough to do with the centre console removed. It just looks tedious and annoying. Changing the entire housing might actually be your easier option though, as you just need to remove the centre console, the 2 linkage cables and then 4 or so fixings and the whole thing will come off complete with gaiter and gear knob.

If you get the complete housing with gear knob and gaiter I'll happily give ya a hand fit it.
