the exhaust emmision light comes on sometimes, randomly engine hot or cold and not every time i drive but its usually when stopped at light etc and when i pull away the car is very slow, then the light goes off and im fine to drive normally.
the other day it came on while doing 30ish and i lost all power to accelerate and the engine was making a slight rev noise (it didnt cut out) then i turned the car off and on and all was fine again....
i got the codes read it came back p0400 EGR malfunction, i was advised to check the vacuum network so did
1 connection was fallen off the vac solenoid and 1 was split so i sorted this and the car runs much better, but the light still sometimes comes on when stopped at lights etc
what could be causing it now? shall i take the EGR valve out and clean it...
i would give it a clean mate, might even be a problem with the lambda sensor i had the same problem with my 1800 sxi, replaced the lambda and worked fine after. but for the sake of giving the EGR a clean i would try that first. might even be worth looking at blanking it off.
well i cleaned the egr up, was manky but cleaned up fine but took the car out for a run and the same thing happened twice, no power on accelerator engine still running...
best thing to do is get underneath it
the lambda is like a probe that sits in the exhaust. has a lead coming out
i would say its the one towards the back (after the cat) as thats the one that gives the CLEAN reading if you get me.
They are easy to change, just make sure the exhaust is cold lol.
just thinking, wouldnt a lambda faulty enough to stop the car throw up a fault code?
i have fixed all vacuum pipes now and appear to have stopped the light comming on when stopped, now it just happens occasionally when running and i cant accelerate and have to pull over
