Default New Red Light Gatso's ****BEWARE****

Took this from another forum

My company makes and maintains speed cameras in the UK (Boo, hiss etc etc)

We have just begun installing in our area the new red light speed cameras, these cameras work the same as normal red light cameras, however, they are now catching speeders as well, they install new sensors in the road a certain distance apart and these read the speed of the car.

They do not require white lines in the road or "Dragon Teeth" as they are known.

If you see the site of any existing red light camera being worked on in the road beware!!!!!

This was the mail I received

"I have been passed the following information, which may be useful:

With regard to the traffic lights on the Holes Bay road near Asda: They will flash if you go through a red as is normal, but they are the first in the country to use the GATSO system whereby through sensors in the road they will detect that if you are going through the lights on green but are over 30 mph they will automatically flash you and you will be caught speeding.

Thanks and Drive Safe!"

If you check through my previous posts you will see who I work for!

So- Who does he work for?

There's also some other new-style speed camera's being developed at the moment. No idea what they are, but we had them here in Peterborough for about a month while they tested them.

and so i'll post the same information here as the last time i saw it....

Quote:
RedSpeed speed and red light digital cameras

This equipment is fully digital - and does not require the use of film.

The cameras - both speed and red light - are activated by a loop embedded in the road surface and will take three pictures.

The first and second photographs will show the movement of the vehicle, either for speed or red light offences, and the third is a close up of the vehicle to determine the make/model, colour and registration number.

The time and date, speed or red light time will all be recorded with each image.

These images are down loaded direct to the viewing office for processing via a standard ADSL line.

This equipment was type approved by the Secretary of State in May 2003 for detecting speed and red light offences.

Quote:
RedSpeed secondary check marks

As in the case of fixed roadside Gatso cameras, there is a requirement to have secondary check marks painted on stretches of road covered by RedSpeed digital speed cameras.

The marks are placed exactly one metre apart, so the distance travelled by the speeding vehicle between the two photographs can be calculated.

This is done purely as a safeguard for the driver - to ensure the speed registered by the camera is accurate.

With digital cameras, the speed between the check marks is calculated automatically by the processing equipment.

Where there is a discrepancy - or the equipment fails to produced the secondary check speed - no action will be taken against the driver.
Photograph not yet available

these cameras have been around for ages !!!

so if it doesn't look like that and there isn't any dragons teeth then don't panic.

as per my 2nd quote.
the lines are not required for the speed guesstimate on this system.
it's only there for driver confirmation after you've been caught.

so 1ft lines would do the job.

if there's no lines on the road there's no way of proving to the driver the automatic system is infallible and no way to make the ticket stick in court.

camera only = redlight only

camera & lines = SLAM ON.

i travel all over the country and have seen these cameras everywhere from bristol, london, peterborough, birmingham, leeds, and further north iirc. etc etc
seen them for years.
