been to have a look at the car today and cant confirm if it has a box problem but the plugs were filled with oil and it wouldnt start so going to have another go this week after buying new gasket, plugs and leads see if the shlag will run... fingers crossed this is the problem with it and not the gearbox.

the car wouldnt run with the spark plugs completely submerged in oil would it ????

(im relitivly new to petrol engines used to diesels now)

If the spark plugs are under the oil it will cause the spark to arch out Ben, This will either make it miss fire or just not start...

Realistically you would think not- But on an old 2.0 16V nova I had- mine went for a good week with the plugs drowned in oil, and iirc- there was a post on here within the last week where someones gasket had gone, and his plugs were covered in oil. Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure his Vec was still running at the time.

If you havn't bought it- Personally I would just dry the plugs off with some old rag and see if she will start. Not much point buying new plugs just yet.. save your money.

.... Or give it to me. Can go towards a new bottle of whiskey- I'm running low lol.

Ps. Don't take anything too seriously when I'm talking about engines... I know very little

Hence i have 15yrs experiance lol

Ben before you take the plugs out make sure you get rid of as much oil in the plug hole as possible. Only you will remove the plugs and the oil will go stright into the cylinder and when it does start, it will blow smoke for a while lol
